After announcing that one of its biggest stars, Rachel Nichols, would be removed from all NBA coverage after the fallout from the Maria Taylor tape, the network appears to have been duped by a high school football team. On Sunday, ESPN aired a high school football game between Florida's IMG Academy and Ohio's Bishop Sycamore. Anyone who watched the game could see as plain as day that IMG Academy is good, and Bishop Sycamore is bad. Like, really bad. We don't want to sound like your mom, but while helmets may not exactly be ultra-cool, they're still a lot cooler than a head wound, brain damage, or worse from an unexpected tumble without one. Boing Boing | | ZOOM DYSMORPHIA IS FOLLOWING US INTO THE REAL WORLD In the age of Zoom, people became inordinately preoccupied with sagging skin around their neck and jowls; with the size and shape of their nose; with the pallor of their skin. They wanted cosmetic interventions, ranging from Botox and fillers to face-lifts and nose jobs. Kourosh and colleagues surveyed doctors and surgeons, examining the question of whether video-conferencing during the pandemic was a potential contributor to body dysmorphic disorder. They called it 'Zoom dysmorphia'. Wired | | ARE THESE MUSHROOM SUPPLEMENTS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO CURE LYME DISEASE? Talk about weird science! Alchemi | | PSYCHIATRIST CLAIMS PSYCHEDELIC EXPERIENCES COME FROM SOURCE OUTSIDE THE BRAIN A prominent psychiatrist has claimed that "nonordinary states of consciousness" (NSCs) such as those generated by psychedelic drugs may arise from somewhere beyond the brain. Explaining his eccentric theory in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Professor Paul Grof does not identify or elaborate on the nature of this mysterious source, which he merely describes as "nonlocal consciousness".
