FACEBOOK PLANS TO SHUT DOWN ITS FACIAL RECOGNITION PROGRAM

Facebook announced it will be putting an end to its facial recognition system amid growing concern from users and regulators. The social network, whose parent company is now named Meta, said it will delete more than 1 billion people's individual facial recognition templates as a result of this change. The company said in a blog post that more than a third of Facebook's daily active users, or over 600 million accounts, had opted into the use of face recognition technology. CNBC

THE REMARKABLE STORY OF A MAN WHO FOUND 162 BOWLING BALLS UNDER HIS HOUSE

David Olson wandered over to the edge of the deck and stood above his yard, looking out at the mound of bowling balls he'd just unearthed. This was the first time he'd paused to count them. ETHICAL AI TRAINED ON REDDIT POSTS SAID GENOCIDE IS OK IF IT MAKES PEOPLE HAPPY

Ask Delphi, a piece of machine learning software that algorithmically generates answers to any ethical question you ask and that had a brief moment of internet fame last month, shows us exactly why we shouldn't want artificial intelligence handling any ethical dilemmas. Unfortunately, like other AIs, Ask Delphi can also be remarkably dumb. Vice

Spread Cheer, Not Boring Cards | Snapfish

SPREAD CHEER, NOT BORING CARDS

Much as we're all for supporting the USPS, there's not much that irks us more this time of year than receiving totally bland, completely boring holiday cards. We're not saying everyone has to pick a theme, plan outfits, and book a photoshoot, but we are saying it would be nice if more people put some effort in. Sending a standard boxed card purely out of obligation? Don't bother. Sending something you crafted with love, ambivalence, or even spite? Bring it on! Even if you don't have kids or pets to plaster all over the design, you can find a way to spread cheer (memes, anyone?), and you can do it for less when you save 70% on custom cards with code 70HOLLY21. Adidas Reveals A New, Xbox 360-Inspired Sneaker That You Can Actually Buy | The Verge

ADIDAS REVEALS A NEW, XBOX 360-INSPIRED SNEAKER THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY BUY

Microsoft is continuing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Xbox in style this year with a second themed Adidas sneaker: the Xbox 360 Forum Mid, which, as the name suggests, is inspired by the company's second console. The sneaker decked out in the 360's white, silver, and green color scheme for a 2005-era look, complete with plenty of subtle details that reference the original design. The velcro strap, for instance, is emblazoned with the disc tray from the 360, while the air vents and Xbox button are featured on the outside. Even the heel is designed to look like the memory card and hard drive slots. The shoe will come with red, yellow, green, and blue laces, to represent the A, B, X, and Y buttons on the 360 controllers, too. The Verge
