SOFTWARE SCHOOLS USE TO DETECT CHEATING IS FLAGGING REAL ESSAYS AS AI GENERATED

An AI detection tool developed by Turnitin to help teachers catch their students using AI tools to cheat in class is proving very unreliable, because of course it is. According to Futurism, tests by the Washington Post with five high school students showed that it detected cheating in less than half of the essays it reviewed and even incorrectly identified human-written text. The tool's lackluster accuracy is raising important issues about the use of AI detectors created to be half-baked tools not capable of distinguishing between AI-generated and human-written texts.

FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND MRNA TREATMENT COULD WIPE OUT A PEANUT ALLERGY

We’ve all seen that episode of Freaks and Geeks, right? The one where Bill ends up in the hospital because he had accidentally eaten peanuts because his bully thought it’d be funny, unaware it’d nearly kill him? That’s because peanut allergies are no joke, but according to New Atlas, they may be a thing of the past soon enough. Scientists from UCLA have successfully tested an mRNA medicine packed in nanoparticles to reduce peanut allergies in mice, a world-first achievement. The medicine prepares the body to stop peanut allergies from developing and showed promise for treating allergies to other foods and drugs, as well as autoimmune conditions. Clinical trials are expected within three years.
