Astronomers have observed a star swallowing a giant planet, providing new insights into how planetary systems form and evolve. Per CBS News, the star, called TOI‑122, is about the same size as the Sun and is located about 400 light-years from Earth. While Earth is not in immediate danger of being swallowed by the Sun, scientists believe that our planet will eventually be destroyed in about 5 billion years, when the Sun runs out of fuel and expands to become a red giant.
