FORGET FUEL: WATER COULD POWER TOMORROW’S SATELLITES

Pale Blue, a Japan-founded space company, has announced the successful test of its in-orbit water-based propulsion system, which launched with Sony's EYE satellite, according to Inverse. The company, which specializes in water-based propulsion systems, is now working on another type of water-based thruster that is more like an ion thruster than a simple jet mechanism.

Shadows In The Big Bang Afterglow Reveal Invisible Cosmic Structures | Quanta Magazine

Cosmologists are using cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation to map the large-scale structures that developed over billions of years as the universe matured, per Quanta Magazine. The CMB light has been stretched, squeezed, and warped by all the matter in its way, allowing cosmologists to separate the ordinary matter from the dark matter. The analysis of CMB data has helped scientists to develop new models of galaxy evolution and the large-scale structure of the universe, while also posing new cosmological mysteries.

Baseball Home Runs Could Increase By 10% In The Next 80 Years Due To Climate Change | LiveScience

Climate change is causing warmer temperatures that, in turn, are reducing air density, resulting in more home runs during Major League Baseball games, according to LiveScience. A team of Dartmouth University researchers analyzed data from over 100,000 MLB games played between 1962 and 2019 and found that between 2010 and 2019, more than 500 home runs could be attributed to higher-than-average temperatures as a result of global warming. And we thought the new pitching clock was going to be a game changer!

Someone Asked An Autonomous AI To 'Destroy Humanity': This Is What Happened | Vice

Ready to feel great? As an experiment, a ChaosGPT user asked the AI to “destroy humanity,” “establish global dominance,” and “attain immortality.” In response, ChaosGPT did just that, according to Vice. It started by researching nuclear weaponry, recruiting other AIs to help research, and sending a series of tweets to inspire others to join what we can only describe as an “Artificial Intelligence Death Cult.” While some are rightfully horrified by its casual response, done without any hesitation, others note that it’s very important to identify the limits (or limitlessness) of AI and how far it will go to do evil when prompted. Either way, yikes.
