The Green Monster Of Space: Unveiling A Supernova Remnant's Hidden Secrets With Webb | SciTechDaily

THE GREEN MONSTER OF SPACE: UNVEILING A SUPERNOVA REMNANT'S HIDDEN SECRETS WITH WEBB

James Webb has done it again! Per SciTechDaily, the telescope has provided a mid-infrared image of the Cassiopeia A (Cas A) supernova remnant, showcasing previously unseen details that offer insights into the death of massive stars. The remnant, located about 11,000 light-years away from Earth, was created by a star's explosion 340 years ago, and offers astronomers an opportunity to perform stellar forensics to understand the star's death.

Ground-Breaking Physics Experiment Shows Light Can Cross Through Gaps In Time | Inverse

Scientists have conducted a new version of the double-slit experiment, which shows that particles fired at barriers with two slits in them can act like waves and go through both openings simultaneously, according to Inverse. The new experiment sent light through gaps in time, rather than space, using indium tin oxide. The findings could lead to new, unusual ways to control light, such as photonic time crystals, and could have potentially important applications for light amplification, light control, computation and even quantum computation with light.

AI Could Lead To A 'Nuclear-Level Catastrophe', Study Finds | Fortune

A new report by Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered A.I., as reported by Fortune, has found that 36% of experts in the field within the U.S. believe that A.I. may bring about a "nuclear-level catastrophe" due to the shift of power from a small group of people to the hands of many start-ups and companies. While 74% believe that A.I. will spark "revolutionary societal change", fears remain that the technology could develop dangerous capabilities, with oversight from traditional gatekeepers eroding. Additionally, fears have been raised over the economic effects of generative A.I., with reports suggesting that up to 300 million jobs could be at risk in the US and Europe if these models are as successful as expected.

Quiz: What Color Is The Sunset On Mars?

//QUIZ

WHICH PLANET HAS THE LARGEST OCEAN?

Hopefully, one day we can see for ourselves…

WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS? »

//YESTERDAY'S QUIZ

WE ASKED: WHICH PLANET HAS THE LARGEST OCEAN?

  • 36.6% of you said "Earth" — I mean, our world is mostly water, so that makes sense.
  • 19.3% of you said "Jupiter" — It is the biggest planet, so it's possible…
  • 19.3% of you said "Neptune" — It's blue, so yeah, we'd probably assume ocean too.
  • 1 of you said "Pluto" — Despite us saying up front it wasn't Pluto.

The correct answer: Jupiter!

According to NASA, "The composition of Jupiter is similar to that of the Sun — mostly hydrogen and helium. Deep in the atmosphere, pressure and temperature increase, compressing the hydrogen gas into a liquid. This gives Jupiter the largest ocean in the solar system — an ocean made of hydrogen instead of water."
