U.S. Warehouses Can Host Enough Solar To Power Nearly 20 Million Homes | PV Magazine

U.S. WAREHOUSES CAN HOST ENOUGH SOLAR TO POWER NEARLY 20 MILLION HOMES

Over 450,000 warehouses and distribution centers in the U.S. have the potential to generate enough electricity to power about 19.4 million homes, according to a report by Environment California and the Frontier Group as reported by PV Magazine. This could cut more than 112 million metric tons of carbon emissions and preserve 376,000 acres of land. Warehouses have the capacity to produce 176% of their annual energy needs, enabling excess production to be exported to communities, said the report.

The authors recommend further discussion and community engagement to develop risk mitigation strategies and best practices.

Welcome To Our New Favorite Pizza Spot: Pepperoni Hug Spot | The Byte

A viral 30-second AI-generated clip advertising a fictional pizza franchise called Pepperoni Hug Spot has left viewers feeling uneasy due to the unrealistic, physics-defying nature of the spot, according to The Byte. The commercial was created using Runway Gen-2, an AI video generator that turns simple text prompts into video clips. While the tool is impressive, it still has a long way to go in terms of rendering photorealistic footage, as shown by the awkward closeup shots of customers biting into pizza slices in the ad or whatever is happening with that pizzaiolo's arm.

The Death Of Human Journalism | Gizmodo

BuzzFeed's recent layoff of its newsroom staff, along with other media outlets' adoption of AI content generators, suggests something we all already kind of knew but were afraid to really face: Automated content may become cheaper and more profitable than hiring actual journalists. Per Gizmodo, the use of AI in newsrooms is being driven by the emergent field of generative AI, which utilizes data-intensive technologies to generate human-like text and visuals. While companies cite evolving business strategies as reasons for using AI, the implementation of these tools may lead to job losses rather than productivity improvements.
