NEW NANOPARTICLES CAN PERFORM GENE EDITING IN THE LUNGS

Researchers have developed new nanoparticles that can be inhaled to deliver messenger RNA to the lungs, per M.I.T. News. This could lead to new treatments for cystic fibrosis and other lung diseases. The particles are still in the early stages of development, but they show promise for treating a variety of lung conditions.

In a move that would make Poe Dameron go, “They AI now?!” programmers have equipped a Boston Dynamics robot dog with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Text-to-Speech voice modulation, enabling it to verbally answer system questions. According to The Byte, the engineers input miles-long configuration files along with mission results for the robot dog to answer questions using context-based on its understanding of the configuration files. However, some people are unsettled by the development and fear it may bring us closer to the robot uprising.

Per Slate, it looks like carmakers are moving away from touchscreens in favor of buttons, mostly due to customer feedback that touchscreens can be difficult, not always work, be obstructed by glare — basically, way too many issues just to turn your radio on. Some automakers, such as Porsche and Volkswagen, have already started adding buttons back to their cars and it’s looking more and more likely that most major automakers will follow suit in the near-future.

FACIAL RECOGNITION SOFTWARE IS EVERYWHERE, WITH FEW LEGAL LIMITS | Bloomberg Law

You could probably guess it, but in case you didn’t realize: Facial recognition software is being used by businesses and law enforcement agencies across the country with few legal restrictions, according to Bloomberg Law. Some cities, such as New York City, have proposed bans on the technology, but these efforts have been largely unsuccessful. Critics argue that facial recognition is an invasion of privacy and could be used to discriminate against certain groups of people.
